DON’T COUNT YOUR CHICKENS BEFORE THEY ARE HATCHED

According to OAO “KamAZ” report, in the situation of the ongoing crisis in the world’s and domestic economies the plant in Chelny has increased its share on a market of Russia’s lorry trucks with gross vehicle weight 14 to 40 tons from 28% in December 2008 to 68% in July, 2009. Meanwhile, according to ACM-holding statistics, the KamAZ trucks production has dropped in the first half of the current year by 61,5% in comparison to the same period in the year of 2008, the total production of motor vehicles with gross vehicle mass exceeding 1,5 tons in Russia has dropped by 72,8%. As analysts in Chelny reckon, for the mentioned period in this segment of Russian market the foreign manufacturers have lost more than 30% of their share, having lowered it down to 21%: “The sales volume of the “Scania” Company – the most successful in Russia – has decreased by 80% against the last year. The market in whole has shrunk down by 4,3 times".

According to unofficial data, summarizing the sales results of new heavy trucks with a gross vehicle mass of more than 16 tons, among the European companies of “Big Seven” (excluding DAF Trucks) the leading position belongs to Volvo Trucks with 444 trucks, closely followed by Scania (414 units), then comes MAN (381 units), IVECO (131 units), Daimler AG (106 units), and Renault Trucks (100 units). For the same period the Ford Company has sold 106 heavy Cargo’s, Hyundai – 39 units, and Isuzu represented by Sollers – 140 units.
An interesting fact is, that in spite of the crisis in construction industry, the dump trucks dominate in the sales structure of IVECO, MAN, Daimler AG, Hyundai, and Isuzu – 58,7%, 59,5%, 79,2%, 64,1% and 82,8% respectively. Meanwhile, the Renault Trucks’ share of dump trucks sales constitutes bare 6%, Scania’s – 21,4%, and Volvo’s – 14,1%. Ford has this indicator equal to 13,2%.
Another important thing is, that according to statistics on import, the biggest part of the new heavy-class foreign cars sales constitute the cars imported (and cleared of customs liabilities) yet in 2008.
