MAN GETS REDY TO EVRO-6
In crisis condition Bavarians made a strategic decision to concentrate all their recourses and investments for preparation of the MAN engines and trucks for the future market. The speech is about the start of the Euro-6 engines development in the first place for the TGX and TGS lines. At the same time the main stake is placed on the MAN AdBlue® technology, in other words SCR with use of urea. Besides, work on new modifications of the Euro-5 motors with exhaust gas recirculation (AGR – Abgasruckfuhrung technology) is going to end. In case of need such motors will be delivered only with SCR.
The following summary suggests itself. Firstly, in «Comtrans» ¹ 4/2008 we published the Munich position relying on the opinion of Wolfgang Held the leader of the Experimental subdivision of the Department «Engines» MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG on the subject of AGR vs SCR. Then it was transparent and irreconcilable: Urea is a temporal tactical decision, AGR is the only viable alternative, and even in the Euro-6 engines this technology will be basic (especially in the light of the beginning of the researches connected with fuel equipment of the new generation with injection pressure of 3000 Bar). Although use of «small» SCR…It seems that the crisis changed the situation and the speech is now not about a small one.
Secondly Euro-6 standard requirements and time-frame of its adoption haven’t determined according to the legislation. Though supposedly the speech is about 2013-2014 years. The strategic decision that was told about above is directly connected with the «crisis on the automobile industry market» (the quotation is from an official release). Thus Bavarians seem to look at the future without any enthusiasm. To all appearance The TGX/TGS trucks will be produced by that time, and for the next 2-4 years technical equipment sales growth and serious increase of the modification number for the countries that don’t have AdBlue supply infrastructure isn’t planned. Strictly speaking, the speech is about all the customers outside the EU.
It is rather interesting how Under-the-heaven automobile industry will behave under these circumstances: as it was given the time for line modernization, elimination of «children's disease», after-sale service development. By the way, in Russia the Euro-6 standard isn’t mentioned even in the most fantastic perspective plans.
