New size of Volvo
We are speaking about Globetrotter XXL cab meant specifically for the Norway market. Compared to Globetrotter XL, this cab is 245 mm longer which means more comfortable facilities for work and rest of a driver, in particular you can set up a lower sleeping accommodation more than a meter wide. Originally, Globetrotter XXL was designed for FH16 tow cars made for Australia where, as you know, really long «road trains» are used in deserted areas. In that meaning, Norway has a long way to go, compared to Australia, as well as neighboring Sweden and Finland, but even there the length of «tows» is different from typical European: 17.5 m for the combination tow car-semitrailer and 19.5 m for towing road train.
By the way, Scania once used to make such cab elongation, although this was the work of it's partnership firm. The length of the biggest cab in Scania line – the Topline – was extended for the whole 1300 mm. But the experiment didn't take hold.
