NEW STRATEGY OF KAMAZ

The board of directors of OAO " KAMAZ" has approved the program of strategic development of the enterprise for 2010-2013 which is based on forecasts of Ministry of Economical Development of Russian Federation, and also of some leadering world and financial institutions assuming, that visible rise of the Russian economy and the traditional countries-importers of Kamaz technics will begin with 2011, and the full restoration of sales volumes will be reached not earlier than by 2013 (the conservative forecast). However, it is obvious, that present economic realities have already forced Tchelninsky management to correct the earlier announced plans foreseeing the release of the order of 70-80 thousand trucks per year already in the beginning of this decade. The sounded prospective sales volume in 2013 – 46,1 thousand cars. Thus Tchelni expect to prevail, which means not by number, but with skill, having earned 128,9 billion roubles due to more dear at the price of machines at smaller volume of their release.
And the ambitions at KAMAZ did not become less – the problem is put to keep a share in the segment in the domestic market at the level of 50 % (on results of 11 months 2009 its share in the Russian market of lorries in full weight 14-40 t made 56,5 %), and on foreign markets – at the level of 20 %.
Besides among the cores, but more remote strategic priorities (till 2018) release of « essentially new modelling chain (after 2013) » which first-born (or the forerunner and some says also the main model) it is possible to consider the board KAMAZ-5308 with carrying capacity 7,7 t, equipped 285-strong engine Cummins and 9-step KPZF. Obviously, that the aggregative base of the perspective family will be based on these two companies assembling parts with which at KAMAZ has formed joint ventures. It is also clear, that Tchelni, most likely, will not manage without the present strategic partner Daimler AG with which the industrial-marketing joint venture « Mercedes-Benz Trucks East » also is formed. It was confirmed also with Sergey Kogogin, the general director of OAO " KAMAZ" who declared an opportunity of the organization of manufacture of the mercedes bridges in Naberezhnye Chelny. There are questions also on the heavy engine and cabin.
The matter is that activity of the joint venture « Cummins Kama » for political reasons does not provide the release of engines with the capacity above 300 h.p. (the government of the USA seriously enough limits the application of the American motors by capacity 400 h.p. and above outside the country, though in Celestial, for example, on these restrictions «they put with the device »).
Hence, according to Sergey Kogogina, there are two variants at Tchelni – weather ask for the small-liter motor at Shwab's, or if the latter will resufe, « to make up for the better » the 12-liter engine. There is, certainly, a third variant – to borrow at GAS a row «6-cylinder» engine YMZ-560 (Renault DCi11). But, by Sergey Kogogina's reaction, this is not considered at all. In private conversation with the author of these lines in chapter of KAMAZ he named it outdated or retired. In a sense it is so, in fact even Renault Trucks instead of it several years ago took DXi11 in arms.
The situation with the cabin is not absolutely clear. TCHELNI declare, that they already have a sample of an own new cabin, besides that is successfully at last recently taken crash-tests. The another matter, that its placing on manufacture will cost KAMAZ a heavy sum – 6 billion roubles. The alternative variant – to go again for a bow to Daimler AG and to ask them a cabin from MB Actros. But here there is a risk to lose identity of a brand, that is own name, and Shwabs will hardly will in delight if in cabin Actros will flaunt an add of KAMAZ. Though if they have an absolutely new model of Actros on the approach on this circumstance eyes can be closed.
 
P.S. According to the approved business-plan, in 2010 KAMAZ plans to make and sell 28,2 thousand cars. Out of them 24 thousand will be realized on the Russian market, 4,2 thousand – on the markets of foreign countries.
