SETRA: IN AMERICA FOR A QUARTER OG A CENTURY
Daimler Buses North America celebrated its 25-th anniversary of the Setra brand presence on the North American market. In this connection two original samples – a contemporary tourist liner Setra S 417 and an oldtimer Setra S 6 produced in 1962 - were presented on the exhibition UMO (United Motorcoach Assosiation) in Orlando, Florida. But products of the Kesborers’ family company for the first time got on the North American continent much earlier than 1984. In 1956 shipping of rather unusual (in American style) intercity high-deck triaxial buses of Golden Eagle and Silver Eagle (length is 12.2 m, height 3.8 m, 210 horsepower MAN diesel engine) to the Texas transport company «Continental Trailways» having a fleet of 4000 buses began. Later several Super Golden Eagle eight-wheel articulated buses with length of 18.3 m and equipped with the 275 horsepower Rolls Royce engine were delivered to USA. The total amount of buses delivered over the ocean is 200. And the leader of the company from Ulma Otto Kesborer was awarded with the freemen title of the small Carol town.
