SISU LOST RENAULT IMPORTER STATUS
French company set up its own Finland branch named Renault Trucks Finland Oy. Thus, local heavy truck manufacturer Sisu Auto lost its status of Renault Trucks general importer. Cooperation agreement was signed with the French automaker that was named then Renaullt V.I. in 1997. Under this agreement in addition to delivery of Renault Premium cabins, engines, from axes, Sisu also imported and sold Renault trucks in Finland. JV Hansa Auto Oy was set up on a parity basis for implementation of this agreement but after several year following persistent recommendations of European Union Sisu bought Renault’s share because Renaullt V.I. was acquired by Volvo Group.
Meanwhile, Finnish machine building company Komas Oy took over control over production program of Sisu Auto plant in Karjaa. Of course, Sisu representatives say that alliance with Komas Oy guarantees delivery of existing production plans and provides fast ramp-up capability in case of market recovery. However for now the company has only one major order that was placed by Finish army. Its cost though is 100 mln. euros.
