Whereas the problem of electromagnetic smog in large cities (which is only increased by them) is fronting on the first place for last years: the natural background in some of the cities is exceeded 200.000-fold! It may be even a bigger danger for human beings that emission of solid particles and green-house gases from modern diesel and petrol engines.

According to conducted researches, the safe level of electromagnetic field intensity is 0.2 mcTl (microtesla). For a trolley-bus it will be 30 mcTl, while for a hybrid bus, in dependence of the mode of traffic, it is 50-100 mcTl – the figure equal to that of an underground train moving along the tunnel. The irradiation is dangerous not for passengers and drivers only but for people around as well – the area of its effect may achieve 20-30 meters around the vehicle.

Among consequences of further non-controlled increase of electromagnetic contamination may be alteration of the magnetic field of the Earth (shifting of magnetic poles is in process already now), which, in difference to the global warming and melting glaciers, will lead to fast perishing of all live organisms. WWF’s warning is indirectly supported by World Health Organization though the latter is not very peremptory in its estimations.

As we think, one may suppose that in recent years, apart from habitual ecological standards, such as Euro-4/-5/-6, etc., new standards will be developed concerning electric transport and hybrid power systems…
